Grandma’s Egg Custard Pie

This is grandma’s delicious egg custard pie. It is very simple to make and has a delicious flavor of nutmeg and vanilla.

It is my dad’s favorite and I made this for him. I wanted a very full pie so I doubled the egg custard but I had more than enough to fill not only the 9-inch-deep dish pie shell, but also a whole bunch of little tarts! I hope you try grandma’s pie!

  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, more for the top of the pie as well

First heat your oven to 350*

Now make your pastry or use a frozen deep dish pie shell.

Now take a large bowl and add the eggs and sugar, whisk together. Now add the vanilla and the 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg.

Now place the pie shell on a parchment lined baking sheet.

Now fill the pie shell with the egg mixture. (If you made double, fill the extra tart shells which you have on a parchment lined baking sheet)

Sprinkle everything lightly with the extra nutmeg.

Now very carefully place the pie into the hot oven.

Bake for 35 minutes or until the center is set.

Remove the pie from the oven and place on a rack to cool.

Now cut a slice of cooled pie, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy!
