12 Days of Christmas Cookies: DateBars

These are our Date Bars. They are really delicious! My momma got this recipe from her dear friend, who was an avid cookie baker, when I was a child. My momma started baking them and when I was a bit older I joined in. They are a hugely popular cookie bar.

  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 bag of chopped dates
  • 1 cup walnuts

Preheat your oven to 350 *

Prepare your pan, this size recipe should fill a 13 x 9 pan. (I make a double batch of this, so mine takes a 1/2 sheet pan and a 8 x 8 pan)

Now:

Place the Crisco and sugar into your mixing bowl, cream

Now add your eggs, vanilla, salt and baking powder and mix well

Now add the flour and mix well

Now add the dates and walnuts, mix well

Now place your batter into your prepared pan

Bake at 350* for 20-25 minutes

Now let the bars cool down, when cool cut them into the size you want and coat them with powdered sugar in the pan, now let them cool completely.

Now they are ready to put on your cookie tray and serve! Enjoy!
