
This is my focaccia bread. It is so easy to make and delicious ! Here is the recipe :
- 1 cup warm water ( not hot )
- 1 Tablespoon yeast ( if you only have packs …use 1 pack )
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
mix the water , yeast and sugar in a large bowl….let sit to get foamy…..
In the meantime measure out :
- 3 cups flour ( all purpose )
- 2 Tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
add flour, olive oil , salt and egg to the foamy yeast mixture . Mix till well combined.
let the dough rest in the bowl about 10 minutes. In the meantime prepare your pans. You can use 2 – 9 inch round cake pans or 1 half sheet pan. Spray them well with pan spray of your choice.
if using cake pans, divide the dough in half, place half in each pan. Pat out to the edges of the pan , then set aside to rise. If using a 1/2 sheet pan, place all of the dough in the pan and pat out to the edges. Set aside to rise.
Now you can brush the top with olive oil and sprinkle with the herbs of your choice….such as italian seasoning….my fave !
Now you can add toppings if you like. I sometimes use crushed tomatoes with garlic . Use 1 big spoonful and spread to the edge. Then I sprinkle parmesan cheese , place thinly sliced tomatoes on the cheese, then sprinkle with italian seasoning. Let rise for about 20 – 30 minutes till it rises to the top of the pan. Bake 375* 15 – 20 minutes. This tastes like a pizza !! Everyone begs for this one !
Turn this out of the pan as soon as it is cool enouth to handle so it does not get soggy on the bottom. Finish cooling on a cooling rack.
Delicious ! You will love it ! The bread freezes beautifully, just wrap well in plastic wrap when cool.
