Christmas Crack….sooooooo good

Today I made my almost famous Christmas Crack! It has always been a holiday favorite of my customers at the farmers markets, as well as family and friends. I made 2 different types today. One pan has chocolate with mini-M&M’s and sprinkles. The other has chocolate, pecans, toffee bits, salted caramel chips and sprinkles! I love to play with the making of this candy. It is so easy as you can make any flavor you can imagine. There is a simple recipe, then the rest is up to you! You can make this in about 30 minutes, so whip some up for your holiday celebrations! You will love it!

For 1 batch: (if you want to make more batches, do one at a time and use the same proportions of ingredients)

  • 1 1/2 full size sleeves of saltine crackers (I use whatever is cheapest)
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 bags chocolate chips
  • pecans, m&m’s, sprinkles and anything else you want to put on this candy

First heat your oven to 350*

Now line a jelly roll pan with foil, spray it lightly with pan spray. Now take your saltines and line the pan as shown above. Set aside.

Place your 1 1/2 sticks of butter in a saucepan. Melt then add 1 1/2 cups brown sugar. Melt the sugar and bring the mixture to a boil. Boil the mixture for 3 minutes. Take off the heat and carefully pour it over all the crackers, then use an offset spatula to spread it carefully to make sure all the crackers are covered. Go slow and steady so you don’t dislodge the crackers.

Now bake for 5 minutes.

As soon as they come out of the oven, spread the chocolate chips on the cracker/caramel mixture. It will begin to melt right away. Take your offset spatula and spread it out. Now add your toppings. Whatever you wish.

Now let it cool so the chocolate sets up. I set mine outside….it took about 5 minutes with this cold, cold weather!

When your Christmas Crack is totally cool and the chocolate is firm, lift the foil up and start breaking the candy into whatever size you want it.

Now package it up into quart size zip lock bags. It keeps well at room temperature.

Now you can enjoy!
