This is a delicious old-fashioned bread. It has a nice crumb and is great for slicing for toast. The flavor is really delicious. Crusty, tender bread that takes hardly any time to make. I hope you try this delicious bread; I am sure you will love it!
- 1 Tablespoon yeast
- 1 Tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 warm water (not hot)
Mix this together and set it aside to bloom.
- 2 cups warm buttermilk
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 6 cups flour

Place your yeast, 1 tablespoon sugar and 1/4 cup water in a bowl, mix and set aside to bloom.( I have a bowl of this in the ingredient photo. You can see it is starting to bloom)
Now warm your buttermilk in the microwave for about 2 minutes( my microwave is 1000, you do what yours needs, some are smaller, some bigger, you just want it warm, not hot)
Add the flour, baking soda, salt, warm buttermilk, honey and melted butter to your mixer bowl. Now add the bloomed yeast mixture, blend well.
When your dough has formed, place it into a greased bowl (you can use pan spray or oil) Then cover and sit it in a warm place.
Let the dough rise till double.

Now prepare your pans by spraying them well, you will need 2- 8 x 4 pans, I like to use the foil pans.
Preheat your oven to 400*
Now take your doubled dough and punch it down to release the air. Then dump it out on a floured surface and form into a log big enough to cut in 2, use your pan as a guide. Now flatten out each half of the dough and roll it into a log, then place into your prepared pan as shown, now repeat with the other half of the dough.
Now cover your loaves with a towel and let them rise for about 30- 40 minutes.
When risen, slash the tops with a very sharp knife or bread lame.
Now bake in a 400* oven for 20-25 minutes till the dough sounds hollow when tapped.
Take the bread out of the oven and turn out of the pans, then set on your cooling rack. Immediately brush with softened butter, now let the loaves cool.

Now that is has cooled, cut a slice, slather it with butter and enjoy!
